After dating for 10 years, the couple exchanged wedding vows during their ceremony last October

The first meeting: Rammah and Leona met while studying at university, initially online on a university meet-and-greet site. “The first time I actually saw Leona was on the first day of the university term. She was walking down Gordon Street away from UCLU (University College London) to join the back of a long queue. I recognised her straight away (from Leona’s profile photo on the university site), she was wearing a pink shirt – I remember it vividly. I stepped out of the queue when she came close by, introduced myself, and, asked if she wanted to join me in the queue. She took one look at the long line and jumped in,” recalls Rammah.

She’s the one:  Rammah knew Leona was the one within the first month of knowing her. “I made the bold assumption that we were dating and when I asked her she informed me that I had not ‘officially’ asked! She has kept me on my toes ever since,” shares Rammah, a postgraduate student. Adds Leona, a healthcare professional, “Soon after we started dating; he was such a caring person.”

Leona is pictured wearing her Dauphin engagement ring while holding Rammah’s hand during the wedding. In Sudanese tradition, henna is applied to the hands of feet of both the bride and groom the night before the wedding during separate ceremonies which are accompanied by singing and dancing.

The proposal: Rammah proposed in December 2015 outside Leona’s old halls of residence, where he first asked her out. She was lured back  to the halls on the premise that there was an old package for her which needed to be collected. “I had organised the surprise to draw Leona back to UCL halls of residence. I had completely neglected that it was a halls of residence. So, as we got closer to the halls I could see a group of students – this made me more nervous. As Leona was trying to get into the halls to ask security for her ‘package’, I stopped her and got down on one knee,” Rammah explains.

“I cried when Rammah proposed. Being in the same place where he asked me out at my halls of residence 10 years earlier brought back so many emotions, it was very overwhelming,” Leona says, breaking into a smile. “There were so many students around and they were clearly enjoying it.”

“During the drinks reception on the river terrace, we escaped together to take in the day and arranged to be photographed in Regents Park. Family and friends flew in from around the world to join us for the wedding and we could not have wished for a better day,” share the couple.

The ring: After much research, Rammah selected 77 Diamond’s designer vintage ring, the Dauphin, for Leona and later, the accompanying wedding band. “I am so happy I stuck with my gut instinct and went for the Dauphin as she really loved it,” he says. “I love everything about my ring especially that Rammah went to so much effort to pick something unique and beautiful for me. It reminds me that he always goes the extra mile to make me feel special,” beams Leona.

The wedding: The couple was married on 29 October, 2016 at Kings College London, Strand Campus during a Catholic Ceremony in the Chapel followed by the wedding breakfast in the great hall. “During the drinks reception on the river terrace, we escaped together to take in the day and arranged to be photographed in Regents Park. Family and friends flew in from around the world to join us for the wedding and we could not have wished for a better day,” share the couple.
