Every story is a unique representation of love – the meeting, the maturity of the relationship and the journey towards marriage. Two individuals coming together to build a life as one. Despite the hurdles and hiccups along the way, this is their happily ever after. Meet some newly engaged couples, basking in a state of romantic bliss. These loved up pairs have been kind enough to share their proposal stories with 77 World.
Today, we meet Rio Bryan-Edwards and Sammi Ward, both bankers who are working in London and based in Hertfordshire.
Rio and Sammi were engaged late last year at a castle in the English countryside
First meeting: The couple, both bankers, first met on their travels to work in the city. “We both travelled in from the same Hertfordshire train station, however it was only when Sammi met a mutual friend, that were we introduced,” says Rio.
She’s the one: “I know it sounds cheesy, but from the first time I met Sammi I knew she was the one and for the past five years we have seen each other nearly everyday. Sammi is a beautiful person on the inside and out and I’m extremely lucky to have met her,” shares Rio.
Proposal: To pop the question, Rio booked a trip to Sammi’s favourite country retreat, Bovey Castle, in Dartmoor Park. “I chose this hotel as Sammi has always said she’d love to get married there so I thought there’s no better place to propose. I booked a private dining room with a chef for the evening and after being led into the candlelit room by the hotel manager we were both whisked outside for my big finale. I asked Sammi to raise her arm and without delay a barn owl flew onto her arm with the ring attached to its foot. As you can imagine this was a huge shock, Sammi had no idea based on her reaction and after the owl flew back, I presented the ring to her on one knee and asked the important question.”

The ring: Over the years, Sammi dropped Rio some helpful hints of what her dream ring would look like and it’s a pear-shaped diamond that set her heart a flutter. Initially, Rio was considering a pear-shaped diamond solitaire ring, but once he saw the halo Medici design, he was sold on that design. “Now that the dust has settled, Sammi is still over the moon with the ring and can’t stop looking at it, I definitely made the right decision,” Rio shares.
Wedding plans: Still enjoying their recent engagement and busy buying their first house together, the wedding will follow in a few years time.
